21 Solo Date Ideas For Self-Care and Self-Love

You don’t need a partner in order to feel loved and cared for. As a matter of fact, it may be that you are just the date you have been waiting for! Luckily, you’ve come to the right place if you need solo date ideas for self-care and self-love!

There is something particularly special about taking yourself out on a solo date. You get to choose exactly what you want to do and you don’t have to worry about anyone else’s preferences or moods. The focus is fully on you and what you need, which can often turn into an incredibly healing self-care experience. It may seem scary and daunting at first, but trust me once you get out there, you will feel proud of yourself and more confident than before.

Some tips before you get going:

  • Schedule the time you allot for a solo date as a non-negotiable. It can be easy to bail when it’s only yourself, but remember the commitment you are making to your self-care.
  • Instead of dressing in a way that might please others, dress in something that makes you feel most yourself. No rules or constraints.
  • Put your phone on do not disturb if you can. We spend so much time connected to our devices that having a break for your solo date makes it that much more self-care oriented. Don’t forget to tell your family or a trusted loved one where you are headed and that you won’t be on your phone, for safety.
  • Set an intention for your solo date. How do you want to feel on your date? What are you hoping to gain from the experience? Knowing your intention will make your time that much more impactful.

1. Take yourself out to a nice cafe. You don’t need someone else to wine and dine you. Take yourself to that new restaurant you’ve been wanting to try or an old favorite.

2. Go for a mindful walk in nature. Try out a new trail near you or stroll around the park. Marvel at the scenery and experience delight.

3. Go for a picnic in the park. Bring your favorite snacks, a nice blanket to sit on or a hammock, and a good book.

4. Go to a concert. Keep an eye on your when your favorite artists come to town. Hot tip: look for park concerts in the summertime!

5. Go see a movie in the theater. Get yourself some popcorn, a yummy drink, and enjoy. Bonus points if you find the theaters in town with reclining chairs.

6. Take yourself to a museum or art gallery. Marvel at what you see, and let it inspire you.

7. Try a new class or a workshop. Try checking out your local yoga studio for cool workshops, any art studios in the area, or other community gathering spaces that promote happenings in the area.

8. Go out for ice cream or your favorite treat. Whatever your favorite treat is, maybe it’s boba, mint chip ice cream in a waffle cone, a warm croissant, or a fresh fruit smoothie. Enjoy your treat in a spot that fills you with joy, perhaps a park or while walking around Target.

9. Attend a dance class. Since you’re on your solo date and no one knows you, you can practice dancing like no one’s watching.

10. Go to the plant store and pick out a new plant. Make your new plant baby a symbol of your self-care and self-love… as it grows, so do you.

11. Stroll around the bookstore or a library. I personally could spend hours wandering the aisles of a bookstore. Take your time, let the books romance you.

12. Book yourself a massage. Or create an at home spa day for yourself! Whatever you choose. make it extra special for yourself by .

13. Book yourself a night away. Whether it’s a staycation at a cool hotel in town, or a getaway up the mountain to a secluded cabin, getting out of your daily environment on a solo date is a special treat.

14. Watch the sunset at good look out spot. There is nothing more transformative than watching a beautiful sunset. Bring a thermos of hot tea or a journal, and let the view inspire you.

15. Go for bike ride. There is something so sweet about riding a bike through a beautiful part of town. When the weather is nice, take your bike out for a spin or rent a bike and ride around town, taking in the sights.

16. Solo beach day or day by the river. Whatever body of water is nearest to you, take yourself there. Being by the water can feel incredibly cleansing and clarifying.

17. Volunteer for a cause you feel passionate about. Self-care can also be community care. Whether it’s walking dogs at the animal shelter, serving food at a homeless shelter, or mentoring local children, this solo date cares for yourself and others.

18. Go fruit picking. In your area, look for local farms that offer apple picking, blueberry picking, or whatever fruit is in season. Pick a recipe to make with whatever fruit you are able to score.

19. Go to the farmers market. This is one of my favorites as it gets me healthy groceries for the week that I look forward to cooking, and is a wonderful way to connect with the community.

20. Attend an afternoon tea. Look for a restaurant or hotel that offers afternoon tea, dress yourself up, and enjoy the cutest activity that will have you feeling like the queen.

21. Have an arts and crafts evening. Choose an art project that calls to you – it could be painting on canvas, knitting, sewing, playing with clay… whatever it is, set the mood in your house and carve out a good chunk of time to get lost in your artistic process. All of these ideas are so cute and fun, however there is a greater intention in taking yourself on a solo date. It is a time to connect with yourself without influence of others that know you already. It’s a time to get to know yourself in a different environment. Most importantly, it’s a time to demonstrate to yourself that you love and care for yourself and your growth. Life can feel mundane and monotonous at times, and these solo dates are an excellent way to keep your zest for life alive.
